PROFILE

KAWACHIAN

Masaki Wakabayashi
Singer-Songwriter

Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, Masaki Wakabayashi launched KAWACHIAN in 2026 at the age of 69.
Rather than beginning a new life, he began giving voice to the one he had already lived.
Memories gathered over sixty-nine years, encounters with countless people, and the language, passion, and spirit of Kawachi have naturally become more than one hundred original songs—and new melodies continue to emerge.

Growing Up in the Passion of Show Business and Martial Arts

Osaka Shin-Kabuki-za. Growing up in the hustle and bustle of this city since childhood。
Masaki was born during Japan’s Showa era into a family involved in entertainment and martial arts promotions.
From an early age, he was surrounded by unforgettable people and dramatic experiences that felt like scenes from a film.
At the age of 24, he founded his own advertising agency and worked on the front lines of creative business. In his thirties, he introduced the unique “Panda Goldfish” to Japan, leading to appearances on numerous television programs. Throughout his life, he has continued to embrace new challenges.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Tai Chi

Another major pillar of Masaki’s life has been Chinese martial arts, especially Tai Chi.
For many years he has taught as a Tai Chi Grand Master, passing on traditional techniques to his students.
His expertise led to his appearance as a Tai Chi Grand Master on NHK’s television program Meikyo Shisui.
The movements and body mechanics inherited from his teacher remain vividly stored in his memory, allowing him to reproduce them naturally through physical expression.

Memory as the Source of Creativity

Since childhood, Masaki has remembered experiences as vivid scenes filled with emotion.
These memories are more than visual. They include voices, sounds, scents, the atmosphere of a place, and even the warmth of the season.
Sometimes a familiar fragrance instantly brings back a moment from decades ago as vividly as watching a film.
This unique way of remembering has become the foundation of everything he creates—from Tai Chi and xieyi painting to songwriting.

Songs Born from Kawachi

Masaki has loved music since childhood. There was hardly a day when he did not sing songs by The Beatles or Japanese folk artists while holding a guitar.
The language, kindness, laughter, tears, festivals, narrow streets, and even the aroma of freshly made udon broth from his hometown of Kawachi have remained alive in his heart for nearly seventy years.
Today, those memories flow naturally into music.
His catalogue already contains more than one hundred original songs, with new works continuing to be written.
In the summer of 2026, KAWACHIAN began releasing one full music video every week for twelve consecutive weeks.

KAWACHIAN does not simply sing about events.

He sings about the scent of a memory.
The feeling of the air.
The warmth of a season.
And the comfort of human kindness.
From Kawachi, Osaka, Japan, KAWACHIAN shares the spirit of “Kawachi Soul” with the world.
